First edition, first binding. With four illustrations by Frank Utpatel. 158 pp. 1 vols. 12mo. His Only Lifetime Book. The only book by Lovecraft published during the author's lifetime, crudely printed by William Crawford, in a small edition in April 1936, about 150 opies of which were bound in black cloth, as here, before November of that year. A further hundred copies were bound in white cloth (Chalker & Owings); the balance of the edition was spoiled or otherwise lost. A landmark in science-fiction publishing.
